Description:
Hungary's meteorological services have issued a red heat alert, the highest, for most parts of the country from Wednesday. A warning has been given for daily mean temperatures rising above 27 degrees Celsius on three consecutive days in 14 out of 19 counties and Budapest, meteorologist Tamas Feher said on Tuesday. In five northeastern counties, daily mean temperatures will remain around 25 degrees C Wednesday to Friday, so the second-highest orange alert has been issued for these parts, Feher said. Maximum temperatures of 31-36 degrees were forecast for Tuesday with the hottest weather expected around Lake Balaton and the southern parts. On Wednesday, the forecast is for 33-38 degrees C while peaks at 38 degrees are expected on Thursday and Friday. A slight cooling of a few degrees is expected at the weekend, Feher said, adding that further cooling with more substantial showers is only expected next week, but without full certainty. National chief medical officer Judit Paller said that a heat alert of the highest degree would be put in place from Wednesday to Friday, while a second-degree alert is in place since Monday midnight.
